3 Tips for Growing Healthy Hibiscus

Hibiscus is a beautiful flower that comes in a variety of colors.

The plant flowers daily and although the blooms do not last long, there is always another one on its way. The blooms are colorful and bright. The great thing about hibiscus is its versatility to be grown both indoors or out. While they cannot be outdoors when it is cool out, when you have consistently warm weather, they can do very well in the garden or as a tool to brighten up the patio. Here are 3 tips to follow when growing hibiscus.

Where to Grow

Hibiscus require full sun so it is important to place them somewhere when they can have access to this. Once the temperature begins to cool, you will want to bring your hibiscus indoors because even one night in freezing temperatures can kill the plant.

When to Water

Hibiscus is a tropical plant. In order to have those big beautiful blooms you think of when you hear “hibiscus”, it is essential to water them often. As the summer comes to a close, less water is required. Be careful not to drown the flowers when watering. If you see leaves falling off the plant or the leaves starting to yellow at the top, that may be a sign of overwatering. When the plant is indoors over the winter months, watering will be dependant on how dry the air gets in your home.

Container Size

Hibiscus do well in containers that are not too large. You will get the best bloom when in a more shallow pot because less energy will be spent on the roots and more on what is happening above the soil.

Hibiscus is a beautiful plant that will brighten your home. You will love the colorful blooms they create.
